About the event
Join Black Voices Cornwall as we celebrate the 76th Anniversary of the Windrush.
On June 22nd 1948, 500 + people from the Caribbean came to Britain to help rebuild the country after the war. The first HMT Empire Windrush voyage arrived in Tilbury Docks in London. Thousands of people and their families came for many years afterwards. The people from the Caribbean not only brought their incredible skill they also brought their vibrant culture.
Join us for an evening of entertainment, music, food, cocktails, and fun provided by people either from the Windrush Generation or linked to them.
Come and enjoy excerpts from the Ubuntu play ‘Farewell Jamaica’ where Nevill will bring the Windrush story alive.
Grab a cocktail in a Pineapple the tropical flavours will transport your taste buds to paradise. They serve each drink in a fruit shell, creatively crafted from the fruit’s own core, resulting in a unique and sustainable presentation, ensuring an eco-friendly indulgence.
Indulge in the authentic taste of CoCoBean delivering fusion food from the melting pot of different African and Caribbean cultures – prepared with care, served with love.
Alongside all this we will be transported to the Caribbean feel as we listen to the awesome reggae music from Konquering Sondz.
Tickets are limited and are based on ‘Pay what you can’. Your donations are welcome however small.
All are welcome but please do not book tickets and then not turn up.
The BVC team can’t wait to party with you!
